PTA and News Agencies Seek Obscenity Law in Texas

Lochabay Rites Set For Today At 1st Christian

Funeral services for Wyatt Lee Lochabay 68 are set for 3 p.m. at First Christian Church with burial in Monahans Cemetery. He died Tuesday at Ward Memorial Hospital after a two month illness. Survivors include Naomi Lochabay, Edna Miller, Maxine Jaeckle, W L Lochabay and ten grandchildren. Barnes Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Class For Adults To Meet Monday

An organizational meeting for adults interested in a business English course will be held Monday night at 7 30 in Room 108 at Monahans High School. A minimum of 20 enrollments is needed, with a ten week course costing 10 dollars. Interested in bookkeeping or shorthand refresher courses should call WI 3 4741.

Bishop George H. Quarterman to speak at Monahans church

The Rt. Rev. George H. Quarterman bishop of the North West Texas Diocese will address Episcopalians at St James Episcopal Church Monahans Sunday at 10 am. He will also lead holy communion at the old church location Seventh and Allen A chicken dinner follows at the new church site Eighteenth and Calvin A bishop committee meeting will be held after the dinner.

Waylan C. Martin Files For Seat On City Council

Waylan C. Martin of 1508 South Alen, an eight year Monahans resident, filed Monday for a seat on Mona hans City Council in the April 4 election with a $3 fee. He has served on the council since 1955, resigning January 24 along with Mitch Widdess. Don Brown Jim Williams O G Rudy Bill Lee and Bill Eason remain. The April 4 race will fill two council seats and the mayor's post, currently held by J W Thrasher. Terms are two years with odd year elections for mayor and two councilmen.

One Thousand Chickens Killed in Highway 80 Collision

About 2 a.m. two miles west of Wickett on U S Highway 80 a two vehicle sideswipe crash killed 1000 chickens. Damage to the vehicles ranged from five to six thousand dollars, according to Highway Patrolman R V Martin at the scene.

Ward County District Grand Jury returned five indictments Wednesday morning on four individuals. Infant Son of Mr. and Mrs. Dobkins Funeral Services Pending

Funeral services are pending at Barnes Funeral Home for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Dobkins of 704 North Allen. The child died last night at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

License Plate Sales Lag At Ward County

Ward County Tax Assessor-Collector A M Bowman reports slow plate sales with about 400 auto plates 107 commercial truck plates and 25 trailer plates since February 1. Deadline to buy the 1961 black on white plates is April 1 with last year’s total at 6676. Bowmen urges residents to purchase early to avoid a last minute rush and notes plates cost the same now as later and two plates can be bought for the price of one.

Vandalism Threatens Monahans Community Center Use

Commissioner G W Slick Thurston warns that ongoing vandalism at the Monahans Community Center may force stricter rules or deposits for users. The building at Fourth and Bruce serves civic groups and oil company safety meetings, with adults required to reserve and supervise teenage parties to keep the facility in good condition.
