Two File For School Board

Two candidates entered the school board races by Friday with two more trustees to be chosen. Rose Mosher a nurse at Ward Memorial Hospital and Dr. Clarence E Peters a local dentist filed for the Monahans Wickett Pyote ISD ballot. January deadline looms for three two year terms and one one year term opening in April.

Post Office To Close Tuesday For Washington's Birthday

A check with banks court house and City Hall showed they will be open on Washington's Birthday. The post office will be closed that date with only special deliveries and mail placed in boxes.

Trio Motors grand opening prize winners announced

Winners at Trio Motors new building include Mrs. C. E. Motley who took $100, James Johnson who won a boy's bicycle, and Liticia Maldonado who received a girl's bicycle. Owners Jack Grant and Wilbert Cutbirth thanked the many customers who participated.

Court Week Opens with Arson and Assault Cases

District Court convenes the week of February 28 with two juries to be chosen from 65 reporters. Arson and assault with intent to murder charges headline the criminal docket against Charles Hardin and Eugene Summers tied to a molotov cocktail bombing. Civil trials slated for Tuesday include cases of fondling a minor. Exact civil order to be announced ahead of Thursday newspaper.

Four Monahans Students Enter Soil and Water Awards

Four English students from Monahans High School submit essays for the 1966 Soil and Water Conservation Awards Program in Fort Worth. The theme is Conservation, the Key to Plenty, with a state winner earning 200 dollars and a trophy. Regional trophies and medals go to 50 winners across five Texas regions.

Plans Shaping Up For 27th Ward County Livestock Show

The 27th Ward County Livestock Show runs March 3 4 5 under President J T Yates with 45 directors and about 150 animals including steer barrow lamb and capon feeders. Judges include Dr Nixon Hubbard W O Cawley and E O Nevills. The Junior Auction Sale March 5 begins at 1 00 p m with 81 animals sold in 1965 and 85 expected in 1966. A horse show and stock show dance close the three day event at the coliseum.

Grandfalls Sets Council Election For Anvil 5

Grandfalls citizens will go to the polls April 5 to elect four members to their city council. Three of the terms are for two years and one is for one year. Names of incumbents up for re election include Fred L. Glanders Jimmy H Everett and Aaron A Wilcox. J Mack Smith term ends as he was appointed to fill unexpired Billy G Walsh term. Filing deadline is March 5 with City Secretary at City Hall. Absentee voting runs March 16 to April 1.

Daniel Named Vice President At TS and L

Joel Daniel was promoted to Vice-President at TS and L during the February 10 board meeting. He joined TS and L in 1964 as an appraiser and rose to Assistant Vice-President in 1965. He works with the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and leads local civic groups. He is married to Judy Patterson of San Saba and has no daughters.

Roy Morales Killed In One Car Crash Near Penwell

A Monahans barber Roy Elizalde Morales age 29 died in a single vehicle crash near Penwell on Sunday afternoon. Patrol says he swerved off the road while attempting to regain the pavement. He died on arrival at Ward Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are pending at Hammond Funeral Home.

House and Garage Fire Reported on Two City Blocks

Fire crews responded to a house fire at 606 West 7 A on February 15 and another blaze at 230 West West Second on February 16, damaging structures and prompting investigation. No injuries reported. Local fire department logs document consecutive incidents on neighboring avenues.

One Man Slain In Gambling Affray

A 21 year old Dallas man was stabbed near the heart during a card game on Monahans north side and died at Ward Memorial Hospital. Henry Lee Boyd 21, who gave himself up to police 12 minutes after the call, was involved in the incident. Edward Tialong a 43 year old Mona hans resident surrendered to officers. The dispute concerned seating at the game.

Two Democratic Candidates Withdraw From Race

Two Democratic primary contenders failed to file funds by the Feb 7 deadline and were dropped from the ballot. County Executive Committee Chairman Bill Eason notes Earl Earp and James Rosson withdrew, while Liontamer Pinkerton reported no Republican withdrawals. Next committee meeting March 21 will set ballot order by drawing.
