Sack Long gets 15 years in district court hijacking case
In a brief trial, Sack Long received fifteen years in district court for the alleged hijacking of Max Scott in Monahans. Scott, an Amarado Oil Company employee in Hobbs, NM, testified Long struck him and took over $160 as he waited for an eastbound bus. FBI notes say a man matching Long’s prints and named Jack Long is wanted on forgery and related charges in several cities.

Funerals Held for Nora Mae and Lola L Whitten in Monahans
Funeral services were held this week in Monahans for Nora Mae and Lola L Whitten both of Jal New Mexico sisters of Peck Whitten owner of the Whitten Barber Shop. Nora Mae’s rites were led by Rev Watson at the Monahans Church of Christ with interment in Monahans cemetery. Lola L’s service followed at Church of Christ with Rev Watsen officiating and burial in Monahans cemetery. Walter Hoerwill Funeral Home directed arrangements. Surviving are their parents Mr and Mrs J W Whitten two sisters Lucille Whitten and Mrs J P Fry and three brothers Char and Peck all of Jal plus others.
