Monahans High School hosted a full house as the Big Green Band received a plaque for second place in the national Disneyland Marching Band contest. Ninety of 180 members performed a concert titled A Salute to Walt Disney, with guests from Disney, Wurlitzer, and local schools in attendance.

Brush Control Experiment Begins on Edwards Ranch
An experimental brush control program starts on the Trey Edwards ranch east of Monahans. A 1200acre plot was studied by Texas A&M researchers from Lubbock and County Agent Johnny Harrison along with local ranchers seeking to eradicate mesquite and other brush to improve forage for cattle. The Edwards Ranch will test spraying with new chemicals as part of a Texas program led by the researchers.

Local Man In Guarded Condition After Tank Farm Crash
James Lin Se O'Brien of Monahans remained in guarded condition at Kermit Memorial Hospital late Wednesday with a broken back and other injuries after a car rear ended a truck 16 miles north of Monahans on Tuesday. C L Truby of Kermit listed in satisfactory condition. Two other men from Kermit treated and released. The car driven by Se O'Brien, a Trans Western Pipe Line employee, collided with a truck owned by Midwest Equipment Company at a turn from State Highway 18 onto a lease road. State Trooper James Irby said the wreck investigation continues and no charges have been filed.
