Cub Scout Pack 55 will hold a blue and gold banquet Tuesday at 7 30 p m in Middleton Sudderth cafeteria. About 28 Cubs and their parents are expected to attend, according to pack leader Glenn Fulmer.
Twenty four new families migrated to Monahans in the first three weeks of February according to local utility records. Names include Mrs H E Pearce 501 South Faye Jesse E Weed 1006 South Harry Dixie Martin 705 North Main Herman R Vogel 205 Ur sila C E Perry 1512 South Johnny Williams Gulf Camp and others listed with street addresses.
A two car crash at South Dwight and East Third caused no injuries and damaged vehicles totaling 300 dollars. A 1955 Chevrolet two door sedan driven by 16 year old Johnny R Avent of Monahans and a 1961 Ford driven by 58 year old Hub T Buchanan of Monahans were involved. The Chevrolet sustained about 100 dollar damage and the Ford about 200 dollars. The accident occurred at 8 30 a.m.
Grandfalls voters will elect a Mayor and two aldermen in an election set for April 4. City Secretary Golda Mitchell announced the date and said candidates must file by March 3 to have their names on the ballot.
Sixteen Ward County residents were summoned for possible service with the Ward County District Grand Jury this morning at 10 o'clock. Tentative jurors report to Judge J. H. Starley at the county courthouse. Twelve names listed include Monahans residents Jack Ammer Charles O. Ice Charlie Hale J. T. Moseley Mrs. Wilson P. Hammond from Monahans plus Pyote and Wickett attendees and others from Grandfalls Barstow and surrounding towns.
A 21-year-old Monahans man Billy Smith is charged with burglary and held on 1500 bond in Ward County Jail after admitting involvement in a February 10 warehouse break in on East Highway 80. Five cases of coffee and an adding machine were stolen. coffee was sold to a Pecos Mexican grocer but recovered by deputies. A 16-year-old Monahans boy involved will be tried in juvenile court. Both await the Ward County District Grand Jury convening today.
Police Chief John Ashcraft releases a 1960 traffic summary showing 195 accidents in Monahans. Worst hours are 4:30 to 6:30 pm, with 36 incidents. safest 3:30 to 5:30 am, no accidents. December worst month, Sunday safest day, Saturdays most dangerous. Principal causes: right of way violation and reckless driving. Total property damage $85,645. 37 licenses were revoked and seven hit-and-run cases.
Monahans Lobo grid fans face lighter travel in 1961 with only a 100 mile trip to Seminole as the farthest away game. The season includes Crane Fort Stockon Colorado City Hobbs N.M. Brownfield Seminole Ector Pecos Andrews and Kermit with home and away dates listed by Head Coach Ray Pope.
Thursday night’s Points-For-Polio basketball event gathered 150.75 in pledges for the local March of Dimes fund. Co-Chairmen Bill Solomon and Lefty Wells announced the totals with sponsors Ratliff and Jenness Agency, B. Williams and Sons, Richardson Oils, KVKM Radio and TV, Monahans News, Farr Hardware, Popular Store, Farr Food Store, Salty’s Grocery, First National Bank, Bill Solomon, and Master Cleaners contributing.
School officials weigh a night class in adult conversational and business English. Interested persons should contact Leaird Meadows or Wesley N. Martin. If enough interest is shown, ten weekly sessions would run on Mondays and Tuesdays, sponsored by the district.
A 1958 Chevrolet two-door sedan was stolen Friday night from its parking space outside Monahans Baptist Church at Third and South Doris. The car belonged to E. O. McNeese of Big Spring. It was left unlocked with the ignition switch not in the locked position and keys were not in the ignition.
Three candidates have filed for two seats on the Monahans-Wickett Independent School Board in the April 1 election. Incumbents remain, with Dr. Paul Kunstadt and J Ross Rucker ousted at Thursday session. newcomer Paul W Cooper filed Friday. Filing deadline is March 1 at 5 p.m.
Oil gushed 50 feet high Friday night after a Gulf pipeline ruptured eight miles north of Monahans near the Ward Winkler county line. A hole 30 feet from the highway sprayed crude over the road in strong wind, creating a slick that slowed traffic while Gulf crews repaired the break around 8 15 p.m. Sheriff's deputies and patrolmen directed vehicles at the scene.
A two vehicle collision in the 1600 block of South Stockton near Monahans caused about 500 in damage. The 1960 Ford driven by John Russell and a 1951 Chevrolet driven by Mrs. Marcelene Curb, both of Monahans, sustained damage with no injuries reported. The crash occurred Friday around 1 30 p.m.
Winkler County Judge W. E. Cook of Kermit testified in Austin on Thursday for an amendment to limit home rule cities like Monahans from annexing land in nearby counties. The bill, before the Municipal and Private Corporations committee, would curb annexation powers and could hinder Monahans effort to annex its waterfield, about a third of which lies in Winkler County.

Vandalism reported at M&M Laundromat at Third and South Betty. About 100 dollars worth of plate glass windows broken on the north side. Owen Joe Bradley reported the incident Saturday morning. Rocks were hurled during Friday night or early Saturday morning.
