Sheriff Blackie McNerlin warns of a rash of burglaries in West Texas as he notes a decline in the long standing local trust. He recalls a bygone era of open cabins and mutual reliance, lamenting that a small, irresponsible segment threatens this community ethic, with further discussion continued on page five.
District Judge J H Starley heard arguments in the case of J C Lewis and J Ross Rucker versus the City of Orbit to determine if a summary judgment should settle the matter as a matter of law. If denied the trial will proceed with a jury on March 19 and the judge will rule before then.
Funeral services are pending at Barnes Funeral Home for Arthur Freck Vallie aged 49 who died at Ward Memorial Hospital Sunday night. He resided at 507 North Main. Survivors include his brother Don Vallie and sister Opal Martin of Monahans and his mother Mrs. F. W. Vallie of Monahans.
Revival services start tonight at 7:30 p.m. and run through Sunday at Southside Baptist Church at 14th and Alice Monahans. Evangelist Rev Carlos Gruber, Latvia native and former South American missionary, leads with Dan M Gibbs directing music. Nursery provided. slides of Alaska missions shown Tuesday morning.
Boys aged ten to eighteen in Monahans are invited to a meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. at Trio Motor Company to discuss forming an athletic club offering boxing wrestling tumbling and other gymnastic activities. Local Jaycees may sponsor the club if interest is strong.

The 143rd District Court schedules 32 back logged civil cases for trial or dismissal this week with non jury hearings from Monday to Thursday at 9 30 a m Judge J H Starley presides over Wednesday and Thursday calls while Judge Steve Preslar handles Monday and Tuesday.
Mal Kumar Majumdar from Calcutta is spending a month in Monahans with the Soil Conservation Service to learn U S practices and bring ideas back to West Bengal. Sponsored by the International Cooperation Administration and U S Department of Agriculture, his visit runs through May as he observes arid West Texas methods and compares them to India.
Monahans merchants urged to boost Ward County Livestock and Quarterhorse Show by dressing Western and decorating windows. About 130 quarterhorse entries expected. March 1 to 3 with out of town guests. Trail Boss R T Wilson and Foreman Bill Mitchell led effort, asking staff to wear Western clothes and greet visitors with Welcome Visitors signs.
About 200 Ward County teachers will travel to El Paso March 1–3 for the 29th Trans-Pecos Convention of District 6 Texas State Teachers Association. General sessions at Texas Western College feature Brig. Gen. Mellink and actor Alan Mowbray.
Monahans Chamber of Commerce 1962 committee chairmen include Johnny Harrison and Charles Switzer for Agriculture with Switzer assisting. John Harlan and Jack Golden co chairmen of Aviation with S J Mathews assisting. Civic Improvement with Jack Grant and Hugh Cooper as co chairmen and Joe Homer assisting.
