A. G. Adair promotes Public School Week March 1 5 with open houses and classroom tours. The Ward County Livestock Show runs March 4 6 under leaders Johnny Harrison Fred Webb and Pat Berger with plans underway. A note urges parents to teach bicycle safety to children amid traffic hazards in Monahans.
Dr. Roy C. McClung, president of Wayland Baptist College, will speak at a banquet honoring the Monahans High School Senior Class tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall. He has expanded campus facilities since 1963 and attended Harvard's President's Institute in June.
Rain and large wet snow flurries drenched Monahans and Ward County on Wednesday with 2.05 inches recorded by official observer John Rogers. Agricultural Agent Johnny Harrison noted county wide totals including Wickett 0.95, Grandfalls about 1 inch, Barstow 0.75, Pyote and Fern Tatum 1 inch, and Monahans 1.10. The moisture benefits range land and irrigated soil, easing dust and improving air quality.
District Court will shift from civil to criminal action on Monday with 13 cases set for hearings during the week. Prospective jurors summoned include W. E. Campbell, Dan Clem ons, Elton L. The News clarifies that T. J. Cox of Royalty did file for a seat on the Grandfalls Royalty School District Board. By mid afternoon Wednesday no other filings existed for that district and none for Pyote Barstow or the County Board.
Monahans Chamber of Commerce delegates attended a Leaders Forum in Big Spring at Cosden Country Club with keynote by Frank W. Mueller of the U S Chamber on chamber leadership. R T Wilson organized the manager meeting and Maxwell joined him in Fort Worth for the Industrial Development Clinic at Will Rogers Memorial Auditorium Round-Up Inn.
Ward County educators plan to attend the Trans-Pecos Convention of District VI of the Texas State Teachers Association in El Paso on March 4 and 5. The event is one of thirteen conventions during March.
Postmaster W R Shelton announced the Mona Hans Post Office will be closed all day Monday in observance of Washington s Birthday. Citizens are urged to complete any business Saturday morning.
Rev. Bob McPherson will lead an evangelistic campaign at First Baptist Church from February 21 to 28 with services daily at 10 a.m. and 7 30 p.m. Joe Adams chairs the evangelism committee. Music Director James Ennis from Riverside Baptist Church will provide special music.
Earl Earp who was discharged February 1 has applied for reappointment. County Judge Toon Estes confirms H. E. Bert Carter also seeks the post and an unidentified man submitted a feeler approach. Total eight applications include Joe Farr Frank Mahoney James Lamothe Johnie Kildow and Eldridge McKinzie.
Ken Williamson, Monahans High School head basketball and golf coach, tendered a verbal resignation to Superintendent George Calder. It will take effect at the end of this school year after serving since 1963-64, with two years coaching basketball and two in golf, plus two years assisting the football staff. He has no definite plans yet.
Ward County Civil Defense Board will meet at 7 30 tonight in the Commissioners Court room of the Ward County Court House. All interested persons are urged to attend.

Geo. R. Bentley, chairman, announced the Monahans Boys' Club fund drive is progressing well with mail contributions and strong public response. Workers will submit pledges this weekend, with a progress report expected early next week. Slim Cunningham and Tommy Lester have engaged civic clubs and sororities including Epsilon Sigma Alpha and Jaycee-Ettes, while VFW Auxiliary will paint and redecorate club rooms. Southwestern Bell employees near completion of the library project. Monahans Jaycees pledged $100.00.
Ward County Grand Jury reported out Wednesday afternoon returning six indictments ranging from assault with intent to murder to driving while intoxicated second offense. Indictments name Jimmy Jaquez for assault with intent to murder with $2500 bond. Van Wright $1500 bond for robbery. Gilbert De La Rosa $5000 bond. Harold Dean Martin $1500 bond. L H Mann DWI second offense with $1000 bond. Jimmy Meek theft with $1000 bond.
The Monahans-Wickett School Board set April 3 for electing three trustees with March 4 filing deadline. Expiring terms belong to L. E. Weaks E. L. Kent and Dr L. B. Stevenson Jr. The board also re elected eight principals including Lathan Walker of High.
Weaks and Kent filed for re election to the Board on Wednesday with no other candidates entering the race as of press time. Superintendent George Callender reported five Sul Ross College practice teachers currently teaching in local schools.
The Mona Hans-Wickett School District census reports 3173 students expected to enroll next year. The figure sits 27 below the current term’s maximum and 21 below this Tuesday’s enrollment. Census taker Debra Fay Goodwin says the drop is in beginners and some children may not have been counted.
Kenneth W. Perry of Odessa married to Mary Dean Sudderth of Monahans has been named marketing manager at Cosden Oil and Chemical Company. He joined Cosden in 1957 as a junior engineer, later became project engineer, moved to chemical sales in 1960, and two years ago became products manager with offices in New York City, now living in Connecticut with his wife and two children.
The City of Wickett will receive bids by 7:30 p.m. March 9 for a 20 by 40 foot cinder tile firehouse. Plans are at Wickett City Hall. An ordinance requiring building permits and an April 6 election to name two city councilmen were approved at the Feb 9 meeting. candidates must file by March 20.
Eight cases ended in settlements without jury trials this week. Two cases reached settlements after juries were selected. six more settled out of court. Matters included Kermit Wholesale Lumber Co. vs Murphy and El Paso Natural vs Welch among others. criminal hearings resume Monday.
