Breakfast Parade Heralds Ward County Show Kickoff
A four day Ward County Livestock Show begins Friday with a 6 am breakfast at Monahans Community Center featuring pan fried steak biscuits jams and honey. Tickets are 2.50 at the door with early risers eligible for free barbecue dinners next week at the Coliseum. Advance sales listed at numerous banks and shops. Saturday hosts the Horse Show at 8:30 am and a parade downtown Monday at 5 pm with 750 dollars in cash prizes for top floats.

Grass fires keep Monahans volunteers busy near Pyote
Dry vegetation and gusty winds fueled several grass fires. Monahans volunteers raced to a large grass blaze by the brush dam south of Pyote, then answered a second alarm in town. A third fire behind St. John the Evangelist Church burned buffalo grass and mesquite along FM 1776, with 500 gallons used over about 45 minutes to extinguish.

Ward County cities to receive sales tax rebates
State Comptroller Bob Bullock reports February rebates totaling 24,539.08 for Ward County towns. Monahans gains 21,935.60, Wickett 1,722.80, Grandfalls 880.68, with Seminole 7,046 and Snyder 41,256 among others.

Library expands film and story hour offerings
KVKM donation funded six Christmas films and one Halloween film at the library to ease demand during holidays. Head Librarian Fern Dodson notes films are mainly from rotating circuits serving 29 libraries, with schools and clubs as top borrowers. Saturday afternoons feature educational shorts and cartoons in the upstairs room, while Wednesday story hour targets nursery School-age children with puppet shows and stories.
