A set of eight prompts asks to rearrange or interpret phrases. It notes Noah rather than Adam in the Ark legend and hints at continued text on Page 2 with a closing line about survivors.
The second session of the Emergency Medical Training Course will be held at the Monahans Fire Department at 7 o clock Friday night. 57 attended the Ward Memorial Hospital organizational meeting with 43 signing up. The program, sponsored by the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission and Odessa College, offers state Technician certification and college credit or para medical course credit, with Dr. Graham Palmer and Odessa College instructors leading the sessions.
Mrs. Elizabeth Heath and Edd Cox of the Ward County Historical Society presented a contract for a possible published history of Ward County at the County Commissioners meeting on Monday. The proposal outlines funding and scope for a county history project.
County Commissioners heard a progress report on the hospital doctor recruitment program. Bob Hill said a New York physician visited without notice, lacked Texas licensure, and was checking requirements. He noted visits through Monahans, Kermit, and Andrews, with inquiries from doctors in South Dakota and Pennsylvania for future visits. He cautioned nine months is typical to locate a doctor and the NHSO contract has no time limit.
Police Chief Joe Drea says tools were the weekend target with thefts reported. A Foster Rand Hydraulic Tubing Tongs worth 10000 were stolen and a toolbox with wireline tools valued at 300 taken from a pickup at 604 South Kenneth. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the department.
The Ward County 4-H Food Show takes place Saturday at Tatum Elementary School with judging in junior and senior divisions across Breads and Desserts Main Dishes Side Dishes and Snacks and Beverages. Awards are at 11 30 and visitors are welcome. Judges include local and Pecos area volunteers. Ward County will also host Reeves and Loving County Food Show during the event.
A humorous feature asserts George Washington was born in West Texas with a Bowie knife birth gift and a cherry tree myth debunked. It mocks the tale and jokes of a Texan birthplace influencing prices as Monahans merchants trim prices on his birthday.
Theme Room To Grow guides the Ward County 4-H Exhibit Parade on Monday February 28 with cash prizes for top junior and senior floats. An Open House will be held at the Monahans Post Office Friday from 2 30 to 4 30. The lobby and work area have been reorganized under the Methods Improvement Program to save costs and improve service. New partitions create worker privacy and a neater front area. A 24 hour Xerox service has been added for patrons. Temporary Postmaster Ray Cortez invites the public to tour the renovated facility. Cortez, from San Antonio, is acting officer in charge after Postmaster Ralph Chaney’s retirement until a new Postmaster is appointed.
School students enjoy a holiday Monday February 21 and several local concerns follow suit. Banks savings and loan post office courthouse and Texas Electric Company close for the holiday while City Hall and Southern Union Gas stay open. Merchants begin birthday celebration Thursday through Saturday.
