County To Curb Gutter on Highway 18 Two Miles

Commissioners Court votes to curb and gutter both sides of State Highway 18 from south of I 20 overpass for two miles as part of the four lane program authorized by the Highway Department. Probation Officer salary raised from 6000 to 6750 with Ward County paying 45.5 percent. Reeves and Loving Counties cover the rest. Robert Kent, a Pecos attorney, was recently appointed.

Born in Oil City Oklahoma he finished Monahans High School in 1942 served as combat pilot in North Africa and China Burma India theaters and studied pharmacy at the University of Texas after the war.

Monahans appoints Jack Forga city manager in council session

In a lengthy Monday session the Monahans City Council named Jack Forga City Manager after he served as acting since last October. The council also set an April 5 election to fill four council seats with filing by March 5 and absentee voting March 16 to April 1.

King and Queen Crowning At High School Auditorium

The King and Queen of Hearts crowning will take place at eight o'clock Saturday in the high school auditorium. Candidates include seniors Jimmy Rogers and Pam Grissom, juniors Richard Porter and Candy Mermis, sophomores Pat Garrard and Jane Coleman, and freshmen Donna Bessent and Robert Purser. A Coronation Ball follows in the gym with a music department program.
