The District 4 Swimming and Diving Meet will be held at Monahans High School this Friday and Saturday. New UIL rulings bring two 4A schools from Lubbock, Monterey and Coronado, into the field alongside 3A programs Monahans Andrews and Fort Stockton. Ward County 4-H Horse Club to name Queen from senior members and Princess from juniors this Saturday at 10 AM in the arena beside the County Coliseum. Cherry Pie Auction Fundraiser Saturday in Ward County
The Cherry Pie Auction benefiting Physician's Recruitment Incorporated and Ward County Library will be held Saturday in conjunction with Washington's Birthday. Mayor Dick Hoyer will serve as auctioneer from 10:30 to 12:45 and 12:45 to 2:30 after lunch. Gandy Distributors will donate cherry almond ice cream with each pie and a gallon for pies selling over 100 dollars. Proceeds support PRI physician recruitment and library needs.

Thorntonville Calls Election For April Seventh
Thorntonville will hold city elections on April 7 to elect three Councilmen and a Marshall. Incumbents J. S. Dunn A. V. Armstrong and H. M. Thornton vacate seats. R. R. Magil serves as Marshall. Candidates must file at the Mayor's office 301 South Ursila by March 7.

City council sets April 7 election. rejects dog pound bid
City voters will choose mayor Richard Hoyer and council members Don Hughes for reelection while Ed Hammond retires after 11 years. County approves new automatic voting gear and bids
At Monday's County Commissioners meeting a punch card voting system may be ready for the upcoming school and city elections after approving seven new computer counters. Canadian Doctor Plans Monahans Family Practice Opening
Dr. D William Davison of Halifax Nova Scotia signs with Physician's Recruitment to open a family medicine clinic in Monahans this summer. He completes a three year residency June 2 at Dalhousie University Medical Center and will secure housing in April then return in June to start.
