Funeral services are set for 2 PM at East Side Church of Christ in Kermit for Mrs Amzi W Carothers 303 W F St Monahans who died Saturday night in Ward Memorial Hospital after a week long illness. She was 84 born June 18 1880 in Coleman County married to Amzi Carothers in 1903 and resided in Monahans 19 years. Survivors include husband Henry Porter Carothers Annis Meers four sisters Roy Stephens will officiate Buddy Fritz assisting interment in Kermit Cemetery Maples Funeral Home directing.

Five Apply for County Veterans Service Officer Post
Five men applied for the County Veterans Service Officer job by Friday, the County Judge's office reported. 4-H Clubbers Take Honors At El Paso Exhibit
Twenty Ward County 4-H Club members attended the El Paso Stock Show from February 6 to 12 and exhibited 22 fat lambs 3 breeding ewes 7 fat steers and 1 registered Hereford heifer. Sam Massey placed third in heavyweight steer class and showed the fifth place Hereford heifer. He bought Champion and Reserve Champion Herefords to upgrade his herd. Bob Griggs showed the sixth place Fine Wool Lamb and a tenth place entry. Jimmy Steed Ricky Pierce placed lambs in the top fifteen. Charles Ice had the tenth place steer. County Agent Johnny Harrison noted a fine showing by Ward County exhibitors with none finishing below the top half.

Rites Held for Mrs Ina Tieman at Local Chapel
Final services for Mrs Ina Algeria Tieman 49 were held Saturday at 10 a m from Hammond Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the local cemetery. She died at her home on West Third Street after a two year illness. Born June 8 1915 in Palo Pinto County she had lived in Monahans about 15 years. She was survived by husband W H Tieman a daughter Mrs Shirley Lewis a son Howard D Beavers a sister Mrs Beth Welch three brothers and three grandchildren.

Mystery surrounds stabbing of J. C. Mays near midnight
J. C. Mays was stabbed before midnight last Wednesday with a thin instrument about five and a half inches. Sheriff W. B. MacNerlin and officers investigated as Mays, in shock, reached the hospital Thursday morning. He remains unable to explain how the wound occurred and his condition remains critical. He left friends around 11:30 p m and reached home a few minutes later.

Ben Pool Wins Awards at State DE Day
MHS senior Ben Pool won best all round boy at the San Angelo Distributive Education Day and took first in the job interview contest among 60 competitors. The window judging team placed fourth of 21 with members Ayers Law Ryan Rainey. Bekky Barret from Monahans was sixth in DE sweetheart judging as the top five girls advanced. About 600 students from 45 towns participated. Monahans students traveled early Friday.
