J B Patterson has been named Division Commercial Superintendent of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co for West Texas effective March 1. He succeeds M P Caldwell who retires after 41 years. Patterson, born in Sweetwater, has varied work history including printing and publishing the Ruby Banner. He has served as Connecting Company Agent and will oversee Bell business offices serving 83 000 telephones across West Texas.
Local Lions plan to attend the Lions International District 2-T of Texas convention in Colorado for a two day session starting Monday April 23. Del Harrington El Paso district governor predicts a record turnout and coordinates advance meetings with host club committees. Colorado Lion secretary Emmett Grantland says letters to 52 clubs indicate attendance will exceed previous records.

Mrs Clyde Ingham led Sandhill troop on a hike to the million barrel tank Saturday. Monday night officers were elected Captain Aline Casey and patrol leaders Hazel Brewer and Vivian Lancaster. Beatrice Beaty was sworn troop scribe as tenderfoot badges were presented.
W G Riddle district manager and J F Blount traffic chief of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co Midland were business visitors in Monahans Tuesday indicating regional outreach and plant activity.
Mr and Mrs J A Summerhill visited relatives in Midland on Sunday and attended a program by the Simmons University quartet at the First Baptist church that evening.
The Trans-Pecos Division of the Texas State Teachers Association will meet in Alpine on April 27 and 28 with curriculum revision as the central theme. State Superintendent L A Woods was invited to deliver the principal address and J O Loflin and Prof. Fred C. Ayer were invited to speak and aid in planning sectional programs. Abra ham Lincoln’s birthday celebrated at the Tubb Dance Hall drawing one of the largest crowds in Monahans. Leo Davis and an 11 piece Denver negro orchestra played on tour east attracting attendees from nearby towns and El Paso. Monahans city council voted to revive street lighting after months of darkness. Texas Electric Service Company will connect 24 locations to burn from dusk till dawn, aiming to reduce burglary and improve safety at night.
Ex service men and their wives plan a social at Tubb Hall at 8 tonight in Ward County. The arrangements committee moved in coffee urns cups and large covered dishes as part of a county ex service men's smoker inviting all veterans and the public.
H J Wade administrator Ward County says all applicants for National Re employment Service must renew every thirty days to be eligible for future work.
