The 4-H Adult Leaders and Parent's Association schedules a meeting for Tuesday at 7 o'clock at the Extension Office. Plans for the Stockshow will be finalized with committees formed for the Ranch Breakfast on Friday February 23, the concession stand, and barbecue. City to call election and open bids on shelter
The City Council will call an election for city officials for April 7 at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Election judges will be appointed. Architect Charles Sudderth and the Desert Sands Garden Club will discuss landscaping Hill Park. Sudderth will explain landscaping costs. The Council will discuss water sale rates to contractors for I 20 construction. Bids on the animal shelter will be opened and bids for a depository advertised.

Ranger investigation at West Texas Home pending findings
Texas Rangers continue probe into an alleged January incident at West Texas Children's Home where a 17 year old claimed being struck by a houseparent. Officials say the case was referred to the Rangers and GOYCI, with a report filed to the Department of Human Resources. Six youths 13 to 16 remained jailed as of Saturday, facing possible arson, auto theft and aggravated assault charges.

Seven Ward County 4-H youths earned placings at the El Paso Livestock Show led by Kate Bauer fifth in barrows and Wilmon Bauer eighth and Scott Lindsey twelfth. Liz Wood calf placed sixth in Light Weight Crossbred, Wayne Wood eighth. Deema Rowland won 2-year old gelding Hatter and Reserve Champion Gelding. Cacy Cooper took second in Western Pleasure, third in showmanship, and first in 3-year old gelding Halter. Other exhibitors included Casey Doran, Rodney Venters, Frankie Crabtree, and Randy Clark.

Texas collects 65.3 million in mixed drink taxes for state, county, and local governments last year, up 11.2 million from 1977.
