Ward County 4-H parents and adult leaders plan a 7:30 pm covered dish supper at the Extension Office 1900 S. Stockton before a busy schedule of stockshow activities for February 22 29. Final prep reports for the Ranch Breakfast February 22 concession stand and bar-b-que dinner will be discussed.
Three Board of Education seats open on April 3 with places 3 4 and 5 held by Wade Greb and Lisman. Absentee voting runs March 17 to April 1 at the administration building. Supt Lathan Walker seeks a tax appraisal firm to re evaluate non oil related personal property and add others, estimated at 1200 to 1500 dollars.
U S Representative Richard C White a Democrat from Texas announces candidacy for re nomination to the 16th District seat He plans to seek a ninth term if nominated in the May 3 primary and elected in November His agenda would stress energy policy and other core issues One item on the agenda requests board approval to delete three entries on the tax rolls Two properties to be deleted were purchased by the school district and the third was an error in biking The meeting also covers approval of the 1980 81 school term calendar a request to allow Dan Gibbs band to attend the Magic Mountain Music Festival in May resignations and replacements for the remainder of the term and the re employment of nine school administrators
County commissioners plan a brief Monday morning session to open bids for fencing in a hangar and runway at Rattlesnake Air Force base and appoint a new director, pending any business from the floor.
University professor Dr Rex Paxton Kyker will headline the 12th Annual Banquet of the Grandfalls Royalty Chamber of Commerce on Saturday February 16 at 7 30 p m in the elementary cafeteria. Kyker heads Abilene Christian University Department of Communication and cites extensive civic service. Tickets are 7 00 and available at Texas Electric Service or via Chamber members. Directors elected to three year terms include Bill Tipton John S White Charlotte Wilcox and Virgil Maye. Officers to be elected February.
City Council agenda includes Hill Park improvement talks after a prior bid was tabled pending landscape input from Chuck Sudduth who is away on vacation. The session also notes bids for two 6 by 10 foot water tanks from old wells and open bids for water work supplies while considering block and house numbering corrections.
Planning for the Freedom Fair began Wednesday with six people mapping roles. Jeannie Sutton leads as overall coordinator, Martha Russell handles fund-raising, and Bill Goin coordinates games. A bicycle race, tennis match, golf, sack races, cow-chip tossing, and watermelon eating are planned along with art and craft booths. CONTINUED ON PAGE 3.
