The City Council will again open bids Tuesday for carpentry and painting at the Airport Terminal Building. One bid was received previously. Sanitation equipment bids will also be opened and a public hearing set on rezoning three lots in the Iva Hayes Addition from residential to commercial.
Dr Clyde S Patterson a local physician has been reelected to active membership in the American Academy of General Practice the national association of family doctors Re election shows he completed 150 hours of accredited post graduate medical study in the last three years
Monahans High School named seniors Robert Potts and Jan Wheeler juniors Dale Emmanuel and Dede Reed sophomores Mike Dunagan and Debby Reeves freshmen Mckey Long and Shelley Strawn to compete in the King and Queen of Hearts event. The coronation will be held in the high school gym Saturday evening February 15 with a dance to follow. Tickets are fifty cents. Each class will start fund raising Friday for their candidates and the winner will be crowned at ceremonies. The couple’s identities will be kept secret until the start of the event.
Ward County hosts its seventh annual Republican Lincoln Dinner at the Colonial Inn with an exhibit of authentic 1860s paintings drawings photographs and models. Organizer Louis Pinkerton notes strong interest and a well known speaker Paul Eggers with limited tickets remaining for 7 00 p m Friday.
The Retail Trade Committee of the Chamber of Commerce lays out promotional activities for 1969 including Washington’s Birthday sale February 21 and 22 with 22 cent cherry pies. March tabloid advertising, senior gift sizes, Krazy Daze August 1, fall fashions tabloid August 14, and extended holiday shopping hours from late November to early December. Official holidays listed: July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day 1970.
Four Friday evening seminars on Sales Management start this week in the Community Room of the Chamber of Commerce. A $100 fee applies. Tom Batson, a qualified management consultant, will conduct the series as announced by Chamber manager Buddy Byars. Topics include Humanities of Management How to Manage Men How To Become A Pro and Applied Motivation.
Pasqual Gomez is set to stand trial as court opens a week of criminal proceedings. He is charged with burglarizing the home of Armado Ochoa on September 5, 1967. A pair of unrelated cases were dismissed for lack of evidence.
Ray White, 49, owner of White Well Service Co., died when his Piper Cherokee clipped trees and struck a mesquite near Hondo in Southwest Texas. He lived in Monahans 17 years and was a member of local Masonic and Scottish Rite groups. Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church in Monahans with interment in Monahans Cemetery. Survivors include his widow and four sons.
Jess Sellars has been named vice president of First State Bank and began duties in February after eight and a half years at American Bank of Commerce in Odessa. A native of Amarillo, he is a West Texas State graduate, former Naval Reserve, and member of the Odessa chamber, American Business Club, and American Institute of Banking. He and his wife Virginia have three children and attend the Baptist Church.
Tickets for the 36th annual Fireman's Ball are on sale now from any Volunteer Fire Department member for the event at the County Coliseum on March 11.

Ward County commissioners discussed a $1 million package including courthouse renovation, jail relocation, hospital upgrades, a community center and Cow Palace. Estimated courthouse cost 750000 with interior revamp and 20 foot exterior expansion. Community center and coliseum areas add about 8 and 14000 respectively while hospital costs range 70000 to 110000. Public reaction favored more hospital space and less courthouse emphasis. Judge Ernie King noted further plan reviews and a tax structure meeting later in the week.
Congressman White and Mrs. White arrive in Monahans for a 7 p.m. dinner at the Colonial Inn hosted by the Ward County Democratic Club. About 200 attend. a Q and A follows his talk. Mrs. White shows a White House film on First Ladies fashions.
