An organizational meeting for a garden club is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at the Monahans Chamber of Commerce office. All interested women may attend as Mrs. J Conrad Dunagan, a member of the lawn and shrub division of the extension program building committee, presides. The group will discuss and adopt constitution and by laws, elect officers, and set meeting dates and times.
Buffalo Trail Council of Boy Scouts of America will hold an Eagle Scout recognition banquet Friday at 7 30 pm in the Tatum School cafeteria. John Fanning of Kermit district executive will preside with R T Wilson of Monahans giving the welcome.
Kermit residents approved three of six bond issues in a special election. Tax bonds totaling 519,800 were approved while 778,480 in bonds were defeated. Approved funds cover street drainage cemetery and fire station projects. Disapproved covered waterworks sewer and a new city hall.
Texas State Parks Board approves a plan making Monahans Sandhills Park the regional headquarters for eight southwest Texas parks. J A Jaynes moves from park manager to park ranger. board reshapes regional supervision, creates a planning section, and separates park management from concessions. Retirement policy and park classifications set for 1962.
Monahans will sponsor a three concert series at Monahans High School auditorium under a new Monahans Community Concert Association replacing the Sandhills Association. Dr. J. J. Coats says the area can support good musical entertainment with a goal of 500 members.
Public invited to a 7 30 p m meeting of the Permian Basin Coin club at the First National Bank building tonight. A 1931 S penny valued at 12 50 will be given as a door prize.
A 14 year old Grandfalls boy, Jerry Clark, is in critical condition in Odessa after a hunting accident near Grandfalls Cemetery. The head wound occurred when 15 year old Willard Freeze accidentally discharged a .22 rifle as the boys walked toward town. authorities say no charges are expected.
The Chamber will hold its first board meeting this afternoon at 3 o'clock, changing from the former 7:30 a.m. start. Agenda includes a brief membership report by G. D. Webb, work program discussion, committee recommendations, and talks on West Texas Chamber of Commerce meetings in Austin, a stronger local business commission, quarterly membership meetings, a feature on Monahans in Drill Bit Magazine, and general business from the floor.
A new lumber firm starts operations in Monahans led by owners Max E. Hammond and I. E. Porter. The Hammond Porter Lumber Company opens at 205 South Betty Street.
A Wednesday two vehicle crash at Sixth and South Faye injured 15-year-old Gracie Marie Weaver and 14-year-old Kathy Moody, both of Monahans, though neither was hospitalized. A 1952 Oldsmobile driven by Glenda Hash and a 1953 Buick driven by Sandra Jeffers sustained damages of 600 and 700 dollars respectively, with a nearby tile fence damaged. An earlier accident at Fourth and Main caused 275 dollars in damage to a 1954 Ford driven by Rita Whittaker and 25 dollars to a 1959 Chevrolet driven by Vernice Fletcher. no injuries were reported.
A Tuesday morning two car collision at North Betty and E Street in Monahans caused about $375 in damage. No injuries reported. A 1954 Pontiac driven by Mrs. Jo Tone and a 1955 Buick driven by Jose Vasquez sustained damages of roughly $200 and $175 respectively.

Eleven students in Mrs. Alma Hale's special education class moved to a new Monahans school building at Sixth and South Alice. The $8400 facility marks Monahans-Wickett ISD's first local move in this field with open house planned for March 6.
The Commissioners Court renewed for one year the delinquent tax collection contract with Bill Hart. It granted the Jaycees permission to use a county lot on Calvin Street for their July carnival and authorized transferring 2500 from the Farm-to-Market Road Fund to Precinct 4 funds repayable by next Monday. Indigent care costs and insurance reductions were discussed with further study planned.
