Monahans Council Sets Special Meeting on Water Project

Monahans City Council will review plans and specifications for the half million dollar water works improvements Friday at 2 p.m. Consulting Engineer Wade Howell will discuss proposals and the council may advertise for bids after the review. Howell missed the last regular meeting when the project was on the agenda.

Top Figure Ever Recorded In Non Presidential Year

The County Tax Collector reported 5355 voter registrations late Wednesday, the largest non presidential year total. Deputies logged 117 in Grandfalls, 114 Barstow, 39 Pyote, and 49 Wickett, all part of the county-wide sum.

Hearing Stated Today On County Problems

A multi pronged suit alleging misdeeds and misspending of county funds by the Commissioners Court is set for 10 o clock in 143rd District Court. Plaintiffs include L B Stevenson Jr Clayton Tatum M tch Widdess Trey Edwards W H Fausett Lena Brown Al Vasquez John Hash John Rutherford and J W Thrasher Jr. They are represented by A R K Archer of Marttons and Max Ramsey of Andrews. Defendants include the County Judge and Commissioners County Clerk and Treasurer Diesel International Treanor Equipment Company Odessa and Ward County. The suit challenges public business actions and spending without proper notices, retirement program participation, car allowances for three commissioners, alleged insurance premium sharing, and use of funds to defend officials.

Seal Coat Project Planned for 30.6 Miles in Ward County

Texas Highway Commission awarded a 474 690 08 dollar seal coat contract to Jones Brothers Dirt and Paving Contractors of Odessa for 190 miles across eight counties including Ward Crane Ector Midland Upton Reeves Pecos Winkler and Loving. District Engineer Paul Coleman will supervise with Russell S. Neal in charge. The 60 working day project covers six Ward County sections along I 20 US 80 US 890 I 20 and SH 18 with specific mileage listed. Site work begins for two days at Pyote and Wickett on related leases.

Man Burned In Oil Field Blaze Near Wickett

Sammy Huey a 21 year old roustabout was severely burned on both legs in an oil field fire eight miles north of Wickett. He was taken to Ward Memorial Hospital and is listed resting comfortably after receiving first and second degree burns. The blaze was extinguished by Monahans volunteers and Halliburton employees in about an hour. the fire confined to the pit below the well head with minor damage to a pulling unit.

January 1970 Building Permits Slowdown Report

City issued a single building permit in January 1970, a 1100 dollar repair estimate for a commercial building. The month shows a national construction slowdown, lagging behind last year when January permits totaled 49350 dollars.

The President's budget earmarks funds for West Texas water supply, parks, and flood control. The Bureau of Reclamation seeks 545000 to study Mississippi Valley water import, 560000 for Pecos River Valley salvage, and 2309000 for Rio Grande irrigation maintenance. National Park Service totals 1104900 across Guadalupe Mountains, Big Bend, Fort Davis, and Chamizal. Savings rates at TS and L boosted by new policy

President Paul Moore of Texas Savings and Loan announced higher rates. Effective February 2 certificates of deposit rise to 5 3/4 percent and effective April 1 passbook savings climb to 4 3/4 percent. Moore cited recent federal regulation changes enabling the increase.

Davis Fails To Show Bond Forfeited And Reset

Jurors found the case straightforward as Jimmy Dale Davis missed court for theft of 364 joints of oil field pipe last April. Judge J H Starley revoked Davis 3000 dollar bond, declared it forfeited, and set a new 15000 dollar bond.
