Sandhills Veterinary Clinic invites the public to an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at 4500 South Stockton. Dr. Bryan Stuckey headlines the event, highlighting the new clinic with a surgery room, exam and lab spaces, and large animal stalls in Monahans. He and his wife Jimisy Paxton reside on Bowie Road with two sons.
Becky Meek was named Sweetheart of the Ward County Riding and Roping Club for 1977. Jim Doran was elected president with officers Cotton Seitern Lila Lambert and Jerry Hardisty. Meek, an 18 year old Monahans High School senior, is an AJRA member and three time World Champion calf roper.

Carbon dating seeks to anchor a potential 13 000 year history while researchers note a kill site with animal bones and recently unearthed Pueblo pottery.
Eighteen Ward County 4 H youth will attend the El Paso Horse Show and stock show events starting Friday. They depart Monahans early Friday with leaders and parents. Buddy and Rhonda Seitern and Robin Wood join only the horse show entry, while the rest stay through the stock show week. Participants include Lisa Thomason, Jerry Fowler, Steve Berry, Fred Barnard, Rodney Winters, Micky Nichols, Frankie Crabtree, Louie Pipkin, John Hawthorne, Jackie Hawthorn, Carol Puckett, Wayne Wood, Roger Thurman, Dan Harkey, and Tracy Henson.
The Permian Basin Health System Agency will hold a public meeting at the Ward County courthouse at 4 p.m. on Wednesday February 9 to share information on health care in the Permian Basin and explain goals set by the Governing Body. Chairmen are Judge Chester Taggart and T V Longbotham DDS. Harley Reeves is Executive Director.
Kermit won first place in the Monahans High School Speech and Drama Department tournament held Saturday. Pecos finished second and Fort Stockton third among fourteen schools. host school did not compete but will enter Amarillo and Lubbock events. Ten students will enter Amarillo. Tech events will feature extemporaneous speaking and poetry and prose interpretation.
