Health Association Plans for Ward County Children

The Ward County Health Association adopted a constitution and by laws and outlined a county wide educational program to improve future health. Representatives from all sections will report on health problems and a county plan, with pamphlets distributed county wide. Parents urged to obtain birth certificates to aid health efforts. a dental and preschool health survey is planned. The next meeting set for tomorrow at 2 PM at the old Methodist church on South Minor Street.

Friends At Rites In Andenridge Sunday

funeral services for Paul Pellizarri of Monahans who died in a local hospital were held Sunday at 7:00 PM at the Catholic Church in Breckenridge. Interment followed in Breckenridge Cemetery with survivors including his brother and sister-in-law Mr and Mrs John Pellizarri of Monahans and his parents and another brother of Breckenridge.

Grand Jury Returns Only 2 Indictments

The grand jury returned two indictments Wednesday. L. M. Thomas faced adultery charges while E. E. Ray was set for theft by bailee. J. P. Britton, arrested in December for conversion by bailee, was no-billed.

Pounds Of Air Mail For First Run

The first air mail service from Monahans began at 12 51 p m on Wednesday. Postmaster Earl Estes delivered six pounds of air mail to the bus driver and was photographed with city officials and businessmen before the bus departed to meet the mail plane at Big Spring. A motor caravan of about six cars from Monahans Odessa Midland and Stanton accompanied the event to Big Spring for the inaugural run. Monahans marks the start of the first star air mail route in the United States according to Postmaster Estes.

New Chevrolet Home Opens in Monahans

The Bankhead Motor Company moved to a larger tile and white stucco building across from its former site in Monahans. The front showroom features eight plate glass windows and a modern layout with offices and parts department, while the back houses mechanical and body shop. Manager J. E. Middleton leads fifteen employees in the new facility inviting public inspection.

Mary E. Cummings Named Grandfalls Postmaster

Mary E. Cummings of Grandfalls was confirmed as postmaster in Texas along with 10 other appointees by the Senate. Eight of the chosen postmasters were women.

County Adds Test Producer Last Week

Ward county added one producer and one test location last week. The report shows nine producers completed in Ector and seven in Winkler, with several counties recording field test actions and well deepening activity across West Texas.

Monahans Wickett Names Green Wave Coaches

Roger F. Cundiff and Haven H. Hanscom were elected head coach and assistant at a special board meeting of the Monahans Wickett School District. Cundiff, praised for a strong Kentucky coaching record, received six of seven ballots. Hanscom, with nine years as head coach, comes from South Dakota and currently works for Permian Chemical. Cundiff to begin duties April 1 and will join Hanscom and Segrest to start spring training.

Stockmen Favor Repeal of 7000-pound Load Law at Pecos Meeting

Jim Thornton Pat Wilson and John Edwards were elected Ward County directors of the Pecos Valley Livestock Protective Association. Ranchers favored repealing the 7000 pound load law while urging safety factors be used in any regulation. They petition Congress and Agriculture to reinstate well drilling in the 1939 range conservation program and urged funds for the Texas Livestock Sanitary Commission. The next quarterly meeting will be in Monahans.

Man Convicted of Fraud in Bridge Tournament Deal

E. R. Rhinehart of Fort Worth was convicted of fraud in a J. P. court here on a complaint by Royal Neighbors lodge members. He disappeared after selling tickets and collecting money for a bridge tournament he was to manage for the local judge. He was arrested in Midland on Monahans officers’ advice.

Food Handlers Protest High Cost of Examinations

About 50 businessmen and employees affected by the city food handler ordinance protested the $5 periodical examination fee. They endorse the law's spirit but call the charge too steep, noting Big Spring charges $2 and Lubbock has no fee. A council member said the points would be reviewed at the next meeting.

Pecos County to Again Ballot Road Bond Issue

Pecos County voters will likely ballot a $250 000 road bond on Saturday March 4 financed by an unlimited tax levy. A meeting of the commissioners court with fifteen oil company reps and Pecos Valley residents yielded broad support for road construction from Fort Stockton to Imperial and Buena Vista and into Preecinet 3 near Iraan. Earlier a $175 000 bond proposal failed by a two thirds margin, with Iraan opposed.

The condition of Mrs. Frank Long mother of Mrs. C. L. Williams and former Monahans resident is greatly improved in a Pecos hospital. Blood transfusions have been given by Mr. and Mrs. Williams and by Mrs. Violet Priester with more possible. The family has gathered with her during this period.

Safe Yields $300 As Texaco Bulk Station Robbed Sunday Night

About $300.00 was the loss estimated when the Texas Company bulk plant was broken into and the safe robbed of cash and other contents last Sunday night. Entrance was gained through a back door after the lock had been broken. The intruders took the safe near the railroad tracks. County and city police have been working on several clues this week.

Interest In City Elections Keeps Poll Taxes High

Ward county's 1939 voting strength is about 2200 with about 1900 poll tax receipts and 300 exemption certificates issued by midnight Tuesday. A full precinct tabulation is not yet complete and last year's tally was higher, though local election interest in Monahans is believed to drive turnout.

Model 1900 Auto Tours America to New York Fair

J H Ozman drove a two cylinder ten horse power 1900 Holsman through Monahans to the New York World's Fair. He left Santa Monica January 3 and aims to reach Gotham in about 100 days with a top speed near 25 mph and an average around 15 mph. He plans to display the car at the fair and sell postcards.
