The notice urges candidates to file by 6 p.m. for May primaries with 23 entries so far, mostly aiming for Commissioner of Precinct 3 to replace H. H. Boroughs. Also announced is the Laymen's Luncheon at Southside Baptist Church at noon with Rev. Virgil Maye as speaker and a preview of the Ward County Livestock Show plans next month.
Lawrence L. Barber Jr. has filed to continue as District Attorney for Ward Reeves and Loving counties. He notes new programs since his 1975 appointment and seeks approval to hire an investigator to aid case work. Other filings include five for constable and two for District Attorney.
Congressman Richard C. White seeks a seventh consecutive term as USS Representative for the 16th District. First elected in 1964, he has served on Interior and Insular Affairs Armed Services and Post Office committees and heads key subcommittees. Filing deadlines set with county officials for both parties.
Ronald Magill announces his candidacy for Constable of Precinct 4 in the May Democratic Primary. A Mobil Oil employee living in Monahans for two years, he is a former Monahans and Alpine police officer, captain and chaplain of the local Fire Department. He holds training from the Permian Basin Academy and Sul Ross, with further study at El Paso Sheriff and FBI Firearms programs. He and wife Lanette with daughter Courtney, three months, reside at 2205 W. 3rd.
Prospective jurors for 143rd District Court were dismissed until further notice per District Clerk T J Griggs. Matters on the docket were either passed or settled, delaying jury service for tomorrow.
Revised regulations govern public use of the School County Recreation Center indoor pool. After school and weekend schedules begin, with specific Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday, and weekday noon swim slots. Admission is 40 cents per person over five years old.
Tickets remain available for the Grandfalls Royalty Chamber of Commerce Eighth Annual Banquet as sales continue for the upcoming event.
I D Harkey a 29 year Ward County resident and Rowan Drilling driller announces candidacy for Commissioner of Precinct 3. He and wife Evelyn plan a February 7 banquet at 7 30 p m to raise funds at the school cafetorium with tickets four dollars. G E Tommy Thompson will lecture on Our Bicentennial Heritage and the Citizen of the Year Award will be given. Also announced are new chamber officers and board members to take office.
Three adult classes sponsored by Texas State Technical Institute begin this month. Filing starts tonight, Office Machines on Wednesday, and Advance Typing on Tuesday February 10. Classes run 7 to 10 p.m. in the VOE classroom. enrollment tonight at 7 p.m. Contact Mrs. Langley at 943 2350.
Ward Memorial Hospital officials plan an inspection tour of additions during the February board meeting. Architect Tommie Huckabee will conduct the tour and offer recommendations. Hospital Administrator Bob Hill notes only minor work remains and some equipment is pending arrival before full use.
Crowds attend a two hour come and go open house at the Monahans High School recreation center marking its official opening. Visitors tour the indoor pool and new facilities as the old gym undergoes work with school board and county commissioners on hand.
