The Ward County Stock Show directors met Tuesday night and elected Fern Tatom president and James King 1st vice president. Irby Dyer, F. L. Williams, Harold Eudaly, C. J. Middleton, and John Wilson named vice presidents and treasurer, with S. W. Estes and others as ex offs. Committee chairs chosen for horse, llama, capon, hog, and breeding cattle shows. They also revised the 4H beef call to allow any breed of beef steer judged by weight, broadening exhibition eligibility.

Jap Taylor a Gulf Oil Wickett Field well tester will receive a 25 year service award on February 5 He started with Gulf at Breckenridge on February 5 1934 as a roustabout and moved to Wickett in 1934 later becoming a driller production engineer and back to well tester He will be honored with other Fort Worth Production Division employees at a dinner later this year for 25 years of service.

Poll Tax Receipts Fall Short of Previous Year
At midnight Saturday, about 2395 poll tax receipts were sold, per Tennie Davis, Tax Assessor Collector. The collector’s office stayed open to permit late purchases. Last year’s receipts totaled 3199 with 66 exemptions.

Six People Hospitalized After Highway 80 Collision
Six persons were hospitalized Sunday after a crash on Highway 80 near Wickett. Victims include Jose Rodriguez and his three daughters Linda Lenora and Katy, and Mr. and Mrs. Swinehart of Genoa Ohio. Rodriguez vehicle pulled across the highway, injuring the Swinehart car. Linda Rodriguez had a fractured pelvis while Swineharts required stitches. Others suffered bruises and cuts.

Wesco buys five Permian Basin concrete firms in $3 million deal
Weaver Cunningham Odessa announces that Wesco Materials Corporation Dallas has purchased five concrete mixing companies for over $3 million. The firms will keep staff and leadership, not a merger. Former Local Merchant Dies Friday in Odessa
Max Winkler aged 68 and longtime Monahans resident died Friday in Odessa after a lengthy illness. He operated a local department store, served on the Monahans school board, and held roles in Masonic and Shrine groups as well as Temple Beth-El. Survivors include his widow, son Stewart, daughter Mrs. Dorothy Katz of Odessa, and brother Nathan Winkler of Ft. Stockton. A nephew, Sam Winkler, lives in Pecos. Funeral services were held Sunday in Odessa.
