Dr. James H. Jauncey, a distinguished lecturer with ten academic degrees, will be guest speaker at a 9 30 a m assembly in the High School auditorium. He has worked in science psychology philosophy divinity history mathematics and religion. He is listed in Who's Who in American Education and has served as engineer at White Sands and as technical adviser to Australia during World War II. He currently pastors the First Christian Church of El Paso.

Ward County Poll Taxes Hit 4141 By 11 P.M. Sunday
Ward County residents had purchased 4141 poll taxes by 11 p.m. Sunday according to Tax Assessor-Collector Miss Tennie Davis. She expected about 100 more polls and noted 150 exemptions issued. Texas December purchases reached 13,482,290 dollars, up 2 million from November. Ward County reports 1959 sales of 152,152 dollars, 87.4 percent of its goal, aided by higher Series E and H rates and volunteer drive. statewide sales total 152,937,812 dollars, 83.8 percent of the 1959 goal. New rates raise interest to 3.75 percent on new bonds with gains for older bonds to maturity.

Appeals Court Upholds Calanchi Rape Conviction
The Court of Criminal Appeals affirms Julian Calanchi of Monahans for raping two 13 year old girls. He received a 30 year sentence from an all male 143rd District Court jury last July 16 and remains in Ward County jail. His defense attorney Holt Magee says resentencing by Judge Paul McCollum is pending with no date set.

Burnett Car Crash Injures Local Residents
Mrs. R. D. Keith daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Ammer was injured in a noon car truck collision at Burnett Friday. Also injured were Mrs. Don Houston and Layne Ross Turner with minor injuries. They were en route to Monahans from College Station. Mrs Keith treated at Burnett Hospital. Mr Ammer took her home for further checks for possible internal injuries.

Oasis Hotel Owner Tommy Pearson Breaks Leg in Rooftop Leap
Tommy Pearson owner of the Oasis Hotel broke his leg at 6:30 p.m. Saturday when he leaped from a pruning tree onto a nearby building roof. Local firemen secured him to a stretcher and lowered him to the ground.
