Contest deadlines loom with Grandfalls entries due at 4 PM today while Monahans and Wickett set midweek and Thursday cutoffs. A festive 1400 block South Erie display features children's book characters. artist Carolyn Parks and helper Mary Kent contribute to the effort.
Eddie Blakely entertained at the Ward Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Christmas salad luncheon held at Mrs. M. S. Harris's home. Santa Claus greeted guests, J. Paul Green as Mr. Claus joined in gift exchange, and gifts included a holiday arrangement for the president and kettle scrubbers for members.
An executive meeting of the TCTA was held Monday December 11 at Tatum Elementary lounge to discuss candidates for state officers to be on the ballot at the February convention. Notices announced local ballot for TSTA president December 11 and 12 and several $250 grants for research study and travel. Delores Ratcliff, local TCTA president, may be consulted. The group plans a Pecos meeting in March to meet the new State President. The next TCTA meeting is February 13. Scrambled eggs brunch tip included.
A calendar of upcoming local Christmas programs and social gatherings across Monahans December 18 to 21. Includes Monahans High School band concert December 18, Gensler P T A and Wickett play December 20, and Middleton Sudd erth Christmas program on December 21, with dates, times, locations, and admission details.
The Plaza Hotel’s dining lore and Eve Brown’s The Plaza Cookbook are celebrated with over 350 recipes from hors d oeuvres to dessert. A Christmas Fruitcake recipe is highlighted, noting its almond flavor and old-fashioned texture, with storage tips and brandy notes for keeping it moist.
Frozen water pipes should thaw slowly to avoid steam buildup and bursts. Do not use a blowtorch. heat lamps, hair dryers, heating cables, and light bulbs can be used. Move heat along the pipe from the far end toward the faucet and keep the faucet open to allow flow.
R Evelyn Elaine Finley daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Don Finley of 705 South Erie is named Girl of the Week by the Monahans branch of AAUW. A Kermit native, she has excelled in TX Youth Conference leadership tennis and UIL poetry awards while balancing work as a county law librarian. She plans to attend Oklahoma University in 1973 to study Spanish and elementary education.
Mrs. H. P. Cooper hosted the La Vecindad Bridge Club Christmas party at her Cooper home. Gold white and red decorations set a festive scene as gifts were exchanged. High score honors went to Mrs. V. C. Davis for first and Mrs. M. H. McWhirter for second. Bingo winner was Mrs. Lanny Ice. Other attendees included Mesdames Paul Kunstadt D. C. Sudderth C. O. Ice Graham Palmer Pearson Cooper Ouida Lovett and W. N. Pearson.
Santa and Donik seek to cure the Ice King by finding him a wife after reuniting eight reindeer. Oonik uses salt to coax the loyal reindeer from hiding and the group travels to the Sun Daughter in the East. The Ice King earns a failed courtship as the Sun Daughter rejects him for being too cold.
