Short duration grazing touted for rangeland benefit
Herschel McDonald of the U S Soil Conservation Service explains short duration grazing as grazing a single herd in one pasture while others rest for six to ten times the grazing period. Benefits cited include improved forage, reduced labor, lower parasites, and wildlife preservation, with notes on water needs and cross fencing. The method suits native rangeland and can apply to cropland where reseeding has occurred, with rotations continuing on page 3.
