El Paso resident Ray ond L. Telles declared his bid for Congress against Richard C. White, the 11 term El Paso incumbent. Telles has served as County Clerk, twice as mayor, and as ambassador under three presidents.
Three Monahans High School students were selected for the All-State Orchestra to perform in Dallas during the Texas Music Educators Association meeting in February. Jeppie Wilson, Juba, Susan and Bill Coleman were chosen as French Horn and Drums respectively by TMEA judges after tape tryouts in Odessa.

Ward County taxpayers receive a share of Texas railroad taxes totaling 25857 dollars. The Texas Railroad Association notes railroads paid nearly 11 million statewide on right of way and property with schools receiving the largest distribution.
