Slick Highway Toll Five Accidents Before Dawn
Moisture laden air and dense fog contributed to five accidents Wednesday night and Thursday morning with two minor injuries reported. The first crash on West Highway 80 involved Alan Dower, Marquetta Weise, and Katherine Rhea, with Dower charged for leaving the scene. Dower’s car, Weise’s vehicle, and Rhea’s car sustains heavy damage. A second wreck occurred between 1:30 and 2:00 a.m. Thursday when Charles Patterson of Monahans ran a stop sign at State Highway 18.

The Monahans Police Department receives its annual Christmas card from Philip Goldfaden of Long Branch New Jersey. Goldfaden, who passed through West Texas in the 1930s, has sent the department a card every year since, thanking them for kindness. This year the card is signed Ex hobo Philip Goldfaden and notes his age of 60. The tradition has become an institution and the department will miss it if it stops.

Explosion Damages Texas Oil Plant North Of Cayanosa
An undetermined origin explosion and fire at the Texas Oil and Gas Company plant seven miles north of Cayanosa damaged two compressors and related equipment. No injuries were reported and Operations Superintendent Ben Jackson estimated damages around 50 000 dollars with full return to service expected within a week.

Council To Open Bids On Water Line Extension
Monahans City Council will open bids on extending water lines looping Interstate 20 at 2 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall. It is the final contract under the half million dollar water works improvement approved by voters in 1969. Also on the agenda is a monthly payment to Chicago Bridge and Iron for the Rudy Park water tower construction. Drug Education Workshop Planned by West Texas Schools
Dr. Vernon Stokes of West Texas Education Center will lead a drug abuse workshop at the Presbyterian Church Tuesday. Attending will be administrators teachers and students from eighteen West Texas school systems.
