FCC Approves KVKM Ownership Transfer in Monahans

The FCC approved the transfer of KVKM from John B. Walton Jr. to Land of The Sun Broadcasters Inc. The buyer includes J. Ross Rucker, Merle Rucker, and Bertha Jenness. KVKM will relocate studios after year end as Rucker follows a full time radio plan.

November building activity stalls with limited permits

Local building was nearly at a standstill in November with $23,000 in city permits issued. The breakdown shows $10,000 in residential construction and repairs and $13,000 in commercial additions and repairs, bringing year to date permits to $536,455.00 versus $781,075.00 a year ago.

Mings Transferred to Houston in Humble Oil Move

Tom E. Mings, longtime superintendent of Monahans Humble Oil District Production, will become nationwide manager for Humble Company's land and building operations in Houston starting next year. He arrived from Abilene to replace W. R. Wardroup and has since served on the Monahans Country Club board. a replacement for him is not yet named.

VFW and Auxiliary Plan Christmas Party

The VFW Post 1004 and Auxiliary announce their annual Christmas party for members and families on December 15 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Hall. A covered dish supper and Santa Claus treats for children are planned and all members are urged to attend.

Wilson Case Hearing Resumes Friday

A continued habeas corpus hearing for Bennie Earnest Wilson is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday in District Court. Wilson, a self-confessed holdup man accused in a 1960 arrest and a 1961 Pecos service station robbery and shooting, seeks to bolster claims of civil rights violations. District Attorney A R Archer expects no new witnesses and a ruling may be issued, while previous hearings involved disputes over attorney conduct and media access.

School Holiday Schedule Set by District Office

The Christmas holiday schedule for the local school district was announced by Superintendent George Callender. All schools will dismiss at 2 30 p.m. December 20 and resume classes at 8 45 a.m. Wednesday January 3 after a 13 day break.

Rights of way negotiations for I-20 frontage road access

City and County officials report progress on securing right of way for improved access to frontage roads along Interstate 20. Public support from 20 to 25 local leaders was voiced at a Tuesday hearing. Acquisition targets Fern Tatom and Frank Robinson parcels, with further plan reviews near the Highway 18 Interchange.
