Ward County Appraiser warns tax rate jump in year
Ward County Appraiser Everett Hewett told the appraisal board that an aerial land survey is done and a full report will be issued next week. He noted personal property lacks ID numbers for computer processing and said new businesses will be verified with the State Comptroller. Most homes will be assessed at 85 percent of market value, some up to 93 percent, prompting concern over unequal treatment and long-held house values. The board approved cabinet purchases for maps and a rent increase for the county computer, and authorized Hewett to consult for the State Property Tax Board on his own time as the state plans an on site review of school district values in January. Hewett was praised for Raney valuation expertise.
