Camelback Mountain park plan seeks federal funds and local support
A Phoenix area foundation aims to buy 352 acres of Camelback Mountain’s north face to convert into a city park. The project seeks 215,700 dollars from the Federal Land and Water Conservation fund, plus locally raised money, with roads and erosion concerns driving the effort. Foundation members expect city approval and cooperation from surrounding municipalities, and vow to raise more funds if needed to save the mountain.
