Electricitys subtle plant effects and new brickmaking process
A survey of electricity's impact on plants notes Becquerel on germination color changes and salt decomposition. Reports on a Salem Oregon telegraph operator patent for an electric magnetic engine. Rail experiments test wooden sugar maple tracks for locomotives with expected life three to four years. A British brickmaking method uses stone grinding, mortar mixing, a multi floor drying oven and airtight firing to produce ten thousand bricks per batch.

The Unlucky Locomotive of the New York Central
The engine No. 311 known along the line as the unlucky engine caused the recent New Scotland collision and killed its driver. Previously it derailed near Veymans two years ago, rolling down a 25 foot bank and badly scalding engineer and fireman. The engine is now laid up for repairs after damages from the latest accident.
