An Elevated Road Romance in Gilded Age New York
The tale follows Harry Camital a Wall Street broker in 1878 who becomes obsessed with two women seen from the Metropolitan Elevated train. He watches Mrs Honston Lacey in a Sixth Avenue flat and a shaping attic girl in South Fifth Avenue, culminating in a downfall and later a dramatic reunion and arranged marriage as he plans a life with the attic muse amid urban ruin and rising railways.
