Rapids Improvements to Excavate Rock at Lower Davenport Chain
Col Macomb advertises for proposals to remove rock from the rapids this year with a $50,000 appropriation by Congress. The main task is 2,500 yards of rock at the lower chain opposite Davenport water works, with cofferdams on the Illinois and Iowa sides and head and foot dam sections. Additional rock excavation of about 300 cubic yards will occur elsewhere as directed to clear the channel through the lower chain.
