Navy Dry Dock Opening at Norfolk in Yantic Lift

Special correspondence from Washington reports on the half million dollar government dry dock in Norfolk navy yard. The Yantic undergoes a water filled test and is then raised onto timber and cement blocks as pumps drain the basin. Simpson & Co. builders describe the dock as one of the world’s largest at 580 by 180 feet with 4,000,000 feet of timber and 70,000 cubic yards of earth moved.
