Deere & Co. acquires athletic field land from W I Velie and C R Stephens in a $16,000 exchange, moving the west fence to allow a new 80 by 600 foot reinforced concrete factory for Velie automobile motors. Leonard Construction will build a one story structure with plans for future multi story expansion. Two hundred fifty workers will be employed.

Accident on Viaduct Bridge Kills Man and Injures Rider
A street car collision on the Rock Island Davenport route claimed the life of Joseph J. Schaab of Rock Island a teamster at the Arsenal. Slippery rails and no sand contributed to the crash seventy five feet south of the viaduct. Schaab died instantly after being thrown from his rig while his companion Erwin Schroeder escaped injury. Roy Hufford the motorman testified the airbrake failed to stop the car in time and that no sand was on the street car. Schaab leaves a widow four children and several relatives.
