City suits to recover 341670 from former treasurer
The board of supervisors ordered a suit to recover 341670 from David H Lyon former county treasurer. The money is held as fees for collecting assessments set by a 1903 state law. Lyons claims no right to the fee and will pay only if it is proven not owed. States Attorney Scott will file suit against Lyon and his bondsmen. The bonds are covered by United States Guaranty Co. The board contends the fee is double compensation and resists payment. The board also voted to buy a seven foot strip of land from Charles Durman within the county burying grounds fence for 250.
