Majority for Asphalt in Sixth Avenue Paving Controversy
Residents accuse Mayor Olson and the board of local improvements of taking control of paving Sixth Avenue from Twelfth to Fifteenth Street with brick. They say petitioners favoring asphalt were excluded, and two petitions totaling frontage of about 1 2 5 feet were not properly considered. Community members plan to resist confirmation of the brick ordinance and push for asphalt.

Residents Lose Voice in Street Paving Vote
About 1050 feet of frontage would give a comfortable majority for paving. Residents allege they had no chance to express opinions on materials. The city engineer prepared a brick paving estimate under the board of local improvements, and seven property-owners appeared, split between opposing paving and favoring asphalt. The board pursued the plan with little property-owner input.
