Brave Captain Outs a Desperate Indian Plot at Camp McDermitt
An 1869 Nevada incident at Camp McDermitt near Winnemucca tells how Captain Wagner and Lieutenant Nemo foil a plot by Winne mucca warriors led by Chief Winhomuccea to sack the post and murder the garrison. Nemo is exposed by a loyal corporal and captured, while Sarah Winnemucca’s interpretress role figures in the bizarre tale. The uprising is quelled, with Nemo dismissed and the chiefs sent to San Francisco dungeons.
