Coast Street Coasting Tragedy Claims Robbies Life
A nine year old boy Robbie Grennell died after a streetcar struck the bob he rode with two companions on the Sixth Street hill near Sixth Street and Fourth Avenue. Witnesses say the bob crossed the tracks just as Davenport and Rock Island car No. 486 approached. the conductor and motorman applied brakes but could not stop in time. Robbie’s death followed the earlier loss of his sister Rose and leaves the Grennell family grieving with one other child remaining. The coroner’s jury attributed the death to contact with the street car during coasting.
