Steel Trust to Impose Sweeping Wage Cuts
A United States Steel Corporation official says starting January 1, 1904 about 90 percent of the company’s workers will face wage reductions from 6 to 20 percent affecting about 150000 employees across subsidiary firms. The remaining 10 percent are Amalgamated Association members with a different schedule through July 1, 1904. The firm contemplates dismissals of high salaried staff to save 25000000 next year while profits from the existing plan may yield a five dollar dividend on stock subscribed at eighty three fifty eight.
