Decrease in Flour Exports and Impacts on Wheatgrowers
An analysis compares flour exports to Cuba and Brazil after treaty abrogation. Exports to Cuba rose from 242,480 barrels in 1891 to 788,47? in 1893, with projections of 1,000,000 barrels if reciprocity remained. Brazil saw 026,869 barrels in 1904, up 100,000 from the prior year, while other South American markets surpassed 600,000 barrels. The loss of these markets could amount to about 8,060,000 barrels or 1,490,000 bushels of wheat eliminated from farmer sales, as European and Indian wheat fleets fill the gap.
