Death of W. S. Knowlton Linked to Chloral Overdose
W. S. Knowlton Rock Island insurance agent was found dead in bed about 11 am. An inquest suggests an overdose of chloral used to sleep, not a clear suicide. He suffered gastric and nervous troubles and had promised his doctor to stop chloral. His wife Anna died three years earlier, leaving two children Grace and James. He planned a Washington trip to visit them and had recently transferred his insurance business and stamp deputy duties to others. He was active in several fraternal groups.
