Through Flood and Fire Love Triumphs in Night Rescue
A sea of fire braces Sir John Carney’s hall as Mrs Temple’s daughter Rosie is rescued by a stranger who saves her life. The unseen hero, the narrator, survives a perilous river drift after abandoning dreams of matrimony. Post recovery, he learns Rosie’s identity and the pair marry, recalling their trials “through flood through fire.”
