Moline adopts sweeping saloon district and building move rules
Moline city council approves the first broad zoning to restrict new saloons by blocks, requiring property owner consent and extended frontage, while existing districts are fortified. The move restricts saloon growth, especially in South Moline and Seventh ward, and unifies enforcement with moving building ordinances and a $5 license fee per building removed. The wage for the city engineer rises to 1350 a year, and dog license revenues total 3332.5. The council awards official reporting contracts to the three local papers.
New Saloon License Restrictions Adopted by City Council
The city of Moline passes a new saloon ordinance amending section one of chapter 20 to require a petition signed by owners of at least 60 percent of property on both sides of the street and within 150 feet of the building, with filings at the city clerk, and prohibitions within blocks lacking saloon buildings. A two thirds council vote needed for amendments, and prior ordinances are repealed.
