President Taft sends condolences as U S Senator Russell A. Alger of Michigan dies at his Washington home. Funeral planned for Saturday at 2 PM. Alger, former secretary of war, suffered a long illness and had appeared in improving health recently.

Man Identified as Sem Griffith Arrested in Davenport Check Forgery

A man giving the name Sem Griffith was arrested in Davenport after attempting to pass a forged check. Ed Nelson and Eid Shallberg identified him at the coal office, linking him to a Moline scam that cheated Nelson out of about $18. Lavert W. London Merchant Slain in Street Attack

London January 1936 William Whiteley founder of the first department store in London was shot dead as he was leaving his shop. The attacker then killed himself with a pistol.
