Summit Hill Voters Ballot Saturday On Education Tax Rate
Summit Hill School District 161 asks voters to approve a .21 cent education tax rate increase from .96 to $1.17 per $100. The Sept 24 election runs noon to 7 pm at Arbury Hills School. The board cites rising education costs and a limited borrowing capacity, aiming to raise about $8,000 for the educational fund and about $15 more in annual taxes for homeowners, with current payments around $72 yearly rising to about $87.50 if approved.

Burglars Hit Park and Shop Supermart for Cash and Liquor
Thieves used a brick to smash a front door at Park and Shop Supermart on Wolf Road in Mokena early Saturday and stole whiskey cigarets and cash. They loaded a large carton with liquor and cartons of cigarets leaving a fifth of whiskey outside. Police believe entry occurred shortly after 5 a.m. and fingerprints are being checked as owners assess losses.
