Drowning Fatality Marks Will County Labor Day Weekend
A drowning occurred in the Kankakee River near Wilmington during the Labor Day weekend. Kenneth Bono, 27, of Braidwood and a companion waded out while fishing, Bono wearing hip boots fell into a deep hole, and drowned. Wilmington rescue squad recovered the body hours later.

New Lenox Explosion Victims Sue for 1 Million
Five New Lenox residents filed a circuit court suit seeking 1 million dollars in damages from Northern Illinois Gas Co and Normoyle and Berg Co over a November explosion at 21 Ash Street. Plaintiffs allege willful negligence in gas line inspections and damage during sewer construction. Each seeks 100000 from each defendant as injuries included a wrecked home and injuries to all.

Welsh Lumber Co of Mokena plans a special open house from September 16 through September 23 to showcase its remodeling begun in 1960 under the Cashway merchandizing system. The exhibit features a new storage building, a redesigned front with redwood siding and glass office, a large display area of 33 000 square feet, and a wide range of hand and yard tools, paints, doors, and home improvement products serving a 40 mile radius. The firm, founded in 1950 by Walter Welsch and Elias Brown, is affiliated with William Welsch.

Library Treasury Receives 210 At Frankfort Sauerkraut Day
The Frankfort sauerkraut day event raised 210 for the local library. Proceeds from concessions were added to the treasury to finance remodeling of the village hall second floor for a public library. A benefit dance at the local grade school on Saturday evening, Sept 30, will further the building fund. Details to follow.

The Frankfort grade school board met Tuesday night to clear the way for starting the new addition to the school plant. The board signed a contract with Baumgartner & Co. of Frankfort, the lowest of ten bids, and adopted a resolution.
