Will Vote Monday To Elect A Circuit Judge

Voters in Will Kankakee and Iroquois counties go to the polls Monday June 3 to elect a fourth circuit judge for the 12th judicial circuit. Candidates are James Barr Republican and Angelo Pistilli Democrat, both Joliet attorneys. Barr has broad backing and is from Joliet. Pistilli resides in Rockdale.

Mokena Methodist Drive On For Building Fund

The Mokena Methodist church launches a $45,000 fundraising drive led by campaign chairman Tex Fant and section leaders William Welsch and John Pettersen. Team captains include Elias Brown Fred Werner Robert Schutte William Bradley Jr Lyman Teague Jr and Harold Fitch. A June training meeting precedes a planned assembly of 12 workers.

Frankfort Seeks Expanded Toll Free Area With Bell Plan

Illinois Bell has applied to the Illinois Commerce Commission for extended area service expanding Frankfort toll free calling to 70,700 phones including Joliet Chicago Heights Manhattan Monee New Lenox Peotone and Tinley Park. The change would waive station to station five minute toll charges and adjust monthly rates as volume rises. The plan aims for readiness within 24 months after approval, reflecting population growth and more telephones in the area.

Diplomas to be awarded to 172 Lincoln-Way graduates

One hundred seventy two seniors at Lincoln-Way high school will receive their diplomas Tuesday night June 4 with C L Klasing president of the board delivering. Edward McFaul will speak on Whats Next during the ceremony. The preceding night honors night features awards and student tributes with Supt A Hunter Chapman announcing winners.

Diamond wedding anniversary open house for Teague Balmer couple

Charles Teague and Louise Balmer celebrate 60 years of marriage with an open house at Parkview Baptist Church in Mokena on Saturday June 1 from 2 to 5 pm. They married in 1903 in Chicago and raised a family with two sons Lyman Sr and Louis C and two daughters Pearl Burkham and Harriet Harl ing.

Diploma awards set for 51 Mokena eighth graders

Fifty one eighth grade graduates from Mokena will receive diplomas tomorrow May 31 at Carpenter Street school starting at 8 00 p m. Speaker Donald Smig county guide dance coordinator will address the future. Noval Robinson board president will present diplomas with Supt James Ennis.

Seis Book Rental Plan At Arbury Hills School

Supt James Wrath announced a fall start for a text book rental system at Arbury Hills. The program will provide each pupil a complete set of books from day one, align copyright dates, refresh curriculum with new texts, and lower parental costs. Parents are asked to donate or sell used books on Friday May 31 with teachers handling procurement. Rental fees during the week of August 26-30 will be $9 for grades 4 and below and $10 for grades 5-8, covering books workbooks and Weekly Readers.

Last Weitendorf School Picnic Sets Sunday Date

The final Weitendorf district picnic will be held this Sunday, June 2, at the school. After July 1 the district No. 154 will be split between Frankfort and Mokena grade school districts. residents are invited to bring their own table service and a covered dish for a noon meal.
