Area Communities Plan Memorial Day Observances
Area communities prepare Memorial Day events with parades and services for war dead. In Frankfort, a 10 o'clock parade will form at the grade school, proceed via Ash and Kansas streets to Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with ceremonies, sports events, and a community supper at 5 pm. Mokena and New Lenox also hold parades led by veterans groups, with church and youth participation and Taps at local cemeteries.

Park Program Opens June 13 In Mokena
The Mokena Park District launches a summer recreation program for district youths ages 6 to 14 from June 13 to August 6. Registration is June 12 and 13, 9 am to noon, at the park. Activities include dodge ball, volleyball, softball, baseball, badminton, and more under Miss Sarah Sippel. The park’s new tennis courts with a green plastic surface are ready for use.

Area Council PTA To Meet
The Eastern Will County Area Council will hold its May 25 meeting at Willowcrest School Mokena at 7 30 p.m. Local PTA units from Frankfort Lincoln Estates Manhattan Beecher Peotone and Mokena will take part in a workshop for PTA officers and committee chairmen. District 22 officers Mrs Dean Weir will conduct the school of instruction.

Four Die In Head-On Crash On U S 30 West Of Frankfort
Four people died when a passenger car and a truck collided head on near Frankfort on U S 30 a mile west of Routes 30 and 45. The car occupants, Fred E. Freers 69, Minnie Freers, and Robert Budlier 72 and Maude A. Budlier 70, were killed instantly. Truck driver Casper Mindone 31 of Joliet suffered shock. Rescue crews extricated bodies after the 10:25 a.m. crash. victims were taken to Muscatine. Police cited speed, curve danger, and possible weather as factors.

Voters Ok Ann Rutledge School Bond on Third Try
The Ann Rutledge School District bond issue passed 90 to 80 with one spoiled ballot after two defeats. The $49 000 proposal funds a new classroom and multipurpose room to meet rising enrollment costs. The architect has plans ready and bids will be sought to start work.
