Memorial Day observances in Mokena and Frankfort honor veterans from the Revolutionary through the Korean wars. Voters in the Lincoln Way high school district approved a 21 cent increase in the educational fund tax rate to up to $1.07 per $100 of assessed valuation. The measure passed 1,425 yes to 1,356 no with 45 spoiled ballots, despite pockets of opposition in New Lenox and Manhattan.

Recommends Forming Junior College District In Suburban Area
After nine months of study the Southwest Suburban Community College Survey Committee recommends establishing a junior college district under Illinois law. The district would serve Argo Blue Island Bremen Carl Sandburg Evergreen Park Lincoln Way Oak Lawn Reavis Rich and Homewood Flossmoor, though Homewood Flossmoor may opt out. The college would begin with capacity for about 3350 students, expanding over four years, and would emphasize general and technical education with extracurriculars.

Boy Injured In Fall From Car In Joliet Area
A 14 year old from Lincoln Estates Gunner Henrickson is hospitalized with head injuries after falling from the back of a car at First and Midland in Mokena. He rode on the outside of a car driven by Wilbur Brookman with six inside and three on the outside. Henrickson was taken to Silver Cross Hospital by Baskerville ambulance.
